Journal #20 - My favorite Tall Tale
My favorite tall tale is the tortoise and the hare. I like this story a lot because I like animals. I also like it because I run track and this story has to do with a race. The main moral to the story which is slow and steady wins the race is a timeless message which teaches a good lesson to people. Honestly, I think that most tall tales are not very good and I get really bored while reading them. but this one happened to catch my eye. The fact that a rabbit is racing against a turtle is a fasinating subject. Here is a little background on the story for all of you that may not be able to remember it. So there is a hare, obvously, and he boasts a lot and says that he is the fastest animal in the forest. He was always giving the tortoise a hard time because he knew that he was the slowests animal in the forest. But, the tortoise is a bold reptile and he says that even the hare can be beaten so he challenges him for a race. The course was set and everybody was eager to watch the race. At the start of the race, the hare and tortoise were ready to go. At the start of the race, the tortoise took off at a slow speed. Seeing that his competition was soabsolutely slow, he decided to take a nap right there on the spot. He woke up some later and raced ahead to see that the tortoise had not made it very far at all. So, seeing how he was hungry, the hare stopped to eat some cabbage. The hare checked the tortoise again, and he was only half way through the track. Speeding ahead to get infront, the hare stopped again and decided to stop for another nap. Waking up with a jolt, the hare saw that the tortoise was meer feet away from the finish line. He speeded at an outrageous speed and tried to get there in the nick of time. But, to his dismay... he was too late. The tortoise had crossed the finish line and he had won the race. The tortoise said "Slowly does it every time!"
